December Days

woke up cold this morning..searching for my warm fuzzy socks, the ones with the balls on the back of the heel. they are pink and cream colored, my favorite ones. i live in a house that was built in 1926 with the original windows and hardwood floors, and steam radiators. i love the character of my house, i love that the bones of it are still reminiscent to the 1920's. even though the windows are 91 years old and brutal winter winds creep in those cracks and under the doorways, i wouldn't change anything. i felt a connection to this house before i even walked through the front door. she just reached out and hugged me as you would greet a dear lost friend. i was home.
i still have a fireplace that burns wood. and even though i would love the convenience of a  gas fireplace there is something special about picking up your firewood, dragging it home and in through the screened in back porch. the way the house smells and the sound of crackling wood, it's heaven.

after a horrible nights sleep with alayna kicking me all night, i awoke this morning wanting to cook, a family tradition dinner and crack open a bottle of good red wine. the winds are blowing forcefully today and i just want to hibernate inside with a good book, or a good movie, a nice dinner and a bottle of wine.

alayna is here today. we are going to squeeze in a mini Christmas shoot.
I love December. i love the twinkling lights no matter where you go, i love the snow (which we haven't seen yet) there are days i love hibernating in the house in cozy sweat pants, warm sweaters and fuzzy socks under mounds of quilts and pillows. i love the reds and silver against the white and the flicker of lit candles dancing through the room.
i love the anticipation of children waiting for Christmas morning and the mad rush of  paper being ripped off and thrown askew in excitement. i love the sitting down with family for a Christmas tradition dinner of Prime Rib, asparagus, crusty french bread, twice-stuffed potatoes and caesar salad with red wine.
