awoken at 5 am to a distraught man on the other line of the phone

let me tell you about the life cycle of a drug addict or an alcoholic....

...i could write a book about it because i've lived it for 25 years.

the alcoholic is a selfish person, thinking of no one but themselves. its all about THEM and no one exists except in case they need something from you. it's a quick thank you, and the good deed forgotten the next day...

its 5AM phone calls, police stopping over at your house  wanting to know if the drunken person can stay at your house. it's trying for years to help someone who doesn't want to be helped. its a crazy world where nothing makes any sense followed by drama and innocent family members getting sucked into the madness they have created, day after day.

the alcoholic destroys many lives as well as their own...slowly...

they do no wrong, and will blame anyone they can for their behavior. they take no responsibility for anything they ever done blaming it on the alcohol, and act as if you should forgive them immediately because, 'they were drunk'. they didn't mean it, until the next time which is right around the corner.

its disappointments, one after the other, its relationships destroyed because they choose booze over everything else or anyone else. And it's always followed with, "I'm quitting Drinking"...and me shaking me head, not even wanting to hear the lie that they actually believe.
